SACU Level 1 Coaching Course

The SACU have made notable strides in formalising our coach education framework. Shabaz, our Learning and Development Manager has been working closely with the Coaching Advisory Group to finalise the content, delivery and assessment structure for our newly created coaching qualification.

The course was created last year and is fully accredited by sportscotland and the Scottish Qualification Authority (SQA). On completion of the course, successful candidates will receive the SQA qualification Sport Coaching Award: Assisting in Coaching Sessions (SCQF L5), which is the SACU’s entry level accredited coaching qualification. When accredited, you are covered under SACU insurance when coaching at a SACU permitted event.

The course is run over 2 days as well as some pre course tasks that are completed online. We also organise a pre course zoom call to introduce you to your course leader, other learners and explain how everything works.

You’ll also be provided an account to our e-learning platform where you can access useful resources such as ‘how to’ videos, coaching checklists as well as templates such as coaching session, warm up and cool down, risk assessment, and personal coaching action plan.

I’ve attached a brief overview of some of the topics that are discussed on the course. Day 1 is a blend of theory and practical with Day 2 being more focussed on practical with some theory added in.

While there is an assessment process, we work to catch candidates in, rather than out and your course leader will work you to pass the course.

We only have a limited number of spots on the course. If you would like to secure yours, you can make payment of £75 via bank transfer using the details below (please add your name as reference).

It is worth noting that many local authorities over grant funding to help cover costs of coaching courses so it’s worth having a look. If you would like any more information email shabaz.khan@sacu.co.uk or call 07470743088

Sport Educator Training

SACU are recruiting sport educators to deliver coaching courses and other workshops. The role requires the individual to hold a current PDA Sports Educator qualification, but if you don’t currently have this we can arrange for you to undergo the training.

Purpose

The Sport Educator workforce is ‘the workforce behind the workforce’. They provide the high quality training and development opportunities for those who are employed and volunteer in the sport and leisure industry, who in turn provide the best sporting experience for the people of Scotland. Sport Educators will be responsible for delivering and assessing SACU training and workshops including the Scottish Coaching Certificate Level 1 (Assisting in Coaching Motorcycle Sport).

Requirements From The SACU

Each individual will be expected to deliver a minimum of two workshops voluntarily on behalf of the SACU as reimbursement of undergoing sport educator training. After the voluntary workshops, sport educators will be paid to deliver and assess workshops and are able to deliver and assess SACU workshops free of charge to their own club or organisation. Payment amount to be discussed.

SACU Riders Portal

The SACU have launched our online membership system, where you can view and manage your SACU licences, including coaches and officials. We’ve created some helpful ‘how to’ videos and a step by step guide on how to apply for your licence here. Please remember to add your club on your profile, once you’ve done this and your club secretary approve you on the system your licence options will appear under the ‘membership’ tab. If you have already added your club and still unable to see your licence options it may be that your club secretary has yet to approve you as a club member. You’re advised to contact the club secretary in this case but please be patient and remember that many of the club secretaries are volunteers.
