Podium position for young Scot in FIM European Trials Championship

Congratulations to Ben Dignan on his 3rd place in the FIM European Youth Trials Championship. A fantastic achievement for one of our rising stars.

2019 has been a breakout year for one young Scottish Trials Rider where he’s challenged established riders across the UK and Europe and ridden with a level of consistency that netted him a third place finish in the European under 16 125 class and the Overall British ACU 125 Championship. I am of course talking about Roybridge’s, Ben Dignan.

For many of us Ben is still that cheeky wee boy we’ve always known but this year there’s been a real steel within Ben and that’s shown in his riding and his presence around the trials scene.

Like most 16 year olds he still has to juggle school, other sports and his trials training and as dad David says “he’s become increasingly self-motivated and self-disciplined reinforced by his personal trainer Anne Wallace off the bike. He’s also working with former top British and World Championship Riders Michael Brown and Alexz Wigg engouraging this development. He’s been able to get overseas with other JST Gas Gas riders through the year with training camps in Spain, France and the Czech Republic with Michael, Alexz and Jack Price.” Read the full story here

WELL DONE to everyone who took part in the SACU Team Trial, organised by Perth and District Motor Club, on Sunday. Congratulations to all the winners. We had 21 Teams, with all of our Scottish Clubs well represented and from your comments everyone had a blast!

Thank you to all the club secretaries for all their help gathering Teams and Observers. We also thank all of the observers who came and made it possible for their teams to have such a good day! Not only did they stand all day in the awful rain but they did it with good humour and great dedication. So a big ‘Thank You’ from all of us.

Perth and District Motor Club are also very grateful to the landowners who gave us permission for the day in this fab part of the countryside.Thank you!

Perth Club members worked hard to lay out and organise the Trial. They made a great job of it! Well done Rab, Scott, Gary, Brian, Steve, Patrick, Douglas and Catherine.

Our next trial is on Sunday 4th November at Bracken Lodges, Loch Tay. See you there!

There’s also some photos from Fin Yeaman.

Scottish Six Days Trial 2018 – report by Donald Young

So that’s the SSDT over for another year with an all too familiar outcome. Losing just 8 marks over the six days, Dougie Lampkin took his 12th victory, extending his quite incredible record of wins and matching his number of World titles; but it came close, very close to a different result. Riding with an exceptional precision throughout the week, a five on the slopes of Ben Nevis denied James Dabill his third win finishing on 11 marks lost. Just like 1979, the big boulders on Ben Nevis were the decider after six days of moors, roads and some quite brilliant sections. This time a Lampkin won, in 1979 the late great Martin Lampkin lost out to Malcolm Rathmell on those same sections.

For Scottish Trials, the week did not go without success with Kinlochleven’s Gary MacDonald clinching a quite brilliant third place. Looking poised and relaxed the entire week, Gary beat his best observation score losing a paltry 18 marks. Tied with current British Champion Jack Price, Gary’s incredible 1 mark ride on his early day in the rain on Wednesday made the difference. Gary is rarely around the trials scene these days and there was no pressure on him to perform, this is a fantastic result. Additionally, as part of the Scorpa Works Team with Andy Chilton and Tom Minta they took the Best Manufacturers Team Award for the first time as well. Read more

2018 SCRMC IST TRIAL OF THE YEAR AT BALFRON   Click here for results

27 Hardy riders came out to support the first round of the SCRMC trials series 2018. The Saturday set out was done by the team of Pete, Alan, Matty and myself in very windy conditions with sub zero temperatures, the trial was in doubt of running. The weather would put a lot of people off as it was fairly heavy snow overnight from the Saturday to Sunday morning. but the roads to Balfron weren’t to bad and we got there early enough to let most riders know that it was going ahead. the snow flurried on and off all day making the going between section a little uncomfortable especially against the very strong cold wind. the sections themselves were a mixture of gullies, streams & rocky outcrops. Everyone who made it said they had a good day out. I would like to thank everyone for their continued support and hope to see them at the next round on Saturday 07/04/18  AT BUCHLEY FARM BISHOPSBRIGGS, G64 3QN. A massive thanks has to go out to the farmer Mr Christie for allowing us to go back up to the top ground making the lap a good deal longer than usual.
