The Scottish Classic Racing Motorcycle Club (SCRMC) was formed in 1988 and the scrambles section is the longest running section.  SCRMC also includes Road Racing, Trials and the ‘Haggis Gathering’, a classic auto jumble that takes place every February in Lanark.

The Scrambles section hold 8 classic scrambles every year, weather permitting, with up to 27 races per meeting.  There are classes for PRE60, PRE65 up to 350cc, PRE65 over 350cc, PRE70, PRE75 up to 300cc, PRE75 over 300cc and TWINSHOCK in the morning block of racing, and in the afternoon the races are age of the rider related i.e. under and over 40, over 50 and over 60 years of age.  There is talk of starting an over 70 class as we have a handful of riders over 70.

We hold meetings at Forfar, Galashiels, Thornhill, Gorebridge, Drumclog, Whitekirk, Hume, and Ballingry occasionally moving to other tracks depending on availability.  The tracks are all on natural terrain i.e. classic scrambles tracks, no artificial jumps just good old fashioned undulating scrambles tracks, which are suited to the bikes ridden by our club members for example, TRIBSA, BSA Goldstar, AJS Stormer, Bultaco, Greeve’s Griffon, HUSKY, CCM, Yamaha XT, MAICO,  CZ plus many more.

Throughout the year we run a championship with points being scored at each event but each rider drops the lowest score, which allows for unexpected events such as family commitments or for mechanical problems. At the end of the year, there is a well-attended prize giving ceremony at the Shawlands Hotel with a guest of honour presenting the prizes, usually a star of the motorcycle world from the recent past.

The highlight of the year is our national event, the legendary Thornhill Classic Scramble, which has now been running for over 20 years.  Riders from all over the UK enter this event, which results in some spectacular racing; the weekend also includes a trial run on the Saturday.  Quite a few bring their caravan or campervan and make a classic biking weekend of it.

There are riders of all abilities from absolute beginners to guys who have been riding for over 50 years.  There is a place for everyone at our club and great comradery amongst the riders and all who attend.

On the first Tuesday of each month, a club night is held in the Shawlands Hotel and we encourage as many members as possible to come along to get on the committee if you are that way inclined or just chat about bikes.
